The Mourne Mountains are not only known for their natural beauty but also for their unique built heritage. The most iconic feature is the Mourne Wall, a 22-mile dry stone wall that winds across the peaks, built between 1904 and 1922 to enclose the catchment area of the Silent Valley Reservoir. The area is also dotted with historic stone cottages, traditional farms, and remnants of ancient settlements, reflecting centuries of human activity. These structures blend seamlessly into the rugged landscape, adding a rich historical layer to the mountains’ scenic charm.
