Erosion Control
Gallery
The Mourne Heritage Trust has developed significant expertise in erosion control, evolving its techniques over the years to promote greater sustainability in preserving the natural landscape. Initially, traditional stone pitching and drainage methods were used to combat the effects of heavy foot traffic on the mountains’ paths. Over time, the Trust has embraced more sustainable practices, such as using locally sourced materials to blend repairs with the environment as demonstrated by the “branch and aggregate” technique. This work focuses on minimizing long-term environmental impact while maintaining accessibility, ensuring the preservation of the Mourne Mountains for future generations.
