Management Plan revision maps the way forward
Mourne Heritage Trust has completed its revision of the Mourne Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Management Plan for the period 2023 – 2027. This work was informed by an online public survey and consultations with key partners. It was undertaken on behalf of Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA), an agency within the Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs.
The plan communicates a vision for Caring for Mourne and outlines the main priorities and mechanisms for protecting and enhancing the special features of the landscape and related heritage. As well as providing a framework for action by MHT, it also recognises and guides the efforts of partners in line with their remits and resources.
Furthermore, with hyperlinks to the wide range of policies, strategies, action plans and various sources of information, the document is a comprehensive reference piece.
With a Landscape Strategy for Northern Ireland committed to by 2027, the plan period leads up to an important development for AONBs and other high value landscapes. Experience of delivery of our plan – and previous iterations – will be fed into the development of the new strategy.
In the meantime, the AONB Management Plan is intended to be a ‘living document’ and will be refined and updated in response to changing needs and opportunities. Revised editions will be posted here.
